SESSION ONE- 10:30AM-12:30PM ( You may choose 1 of the following options):

#1. The Beauty of Mixed Age Groups (Beth Wolff)   Beth likes to think of mixed age groups as a palette filled with beautiful colors; each one blending into another, allowing some to mix and form vivid new shades.  Unlike an artist canvas children are not blank when they start their day with us; they arrive already created, full of ideas.  The relationships they have with one another fills your program with lasting friendships.  Just as an artist may use different brushes for different techniques, we as professionals understand that each age agroup is at a different point of growth.  In this workshop, Beth will help participants work through the struggles various ages can bring and see the beauty of mixed aged groups in all settings: family, group, and center.  Participants will be challenged to look beyond the traditional grouping of children according to age and encouraged to see the value of mixed age groups.  Beth will share thoughts on how the children’s interactions with one another help them to grow into well-rounded individuals with empathy and consideration of other’s no matter their age or abilities. #2 The Nurtured Heart Approach (Molly Hughes)  Children with high intensity temperaments are often seen as children who are challenging in school/child care. The “Nurtured Heart Approach”, based on the work of Howard Glasser, is a unique approach for working with children who have challenging behaviors. This course combines 4 effective strategies for helping caregivers transform the way they see children who have high energy/intensity from a challenge to a gift KCF: II.C
