SESSION ONE – 10:30AM – 12:30PM (You may choose 1 of the following options):

#1 Empowering Children with the Gift of Control (Denita Dinger): Afraid of what that “out of control” child in your program will do if you “just” let them play? Feeling like sticking to a rigid schedule is the only way for you to be in control? Do you think “play-based” and “child-led” means no structure?… KCF: VI.    CDA: 6

#2 Limits Create Happier Kids + Happier Child Care Providers with Love  & Logic (Andy Johnsrud):  This class meets the licensing requirements for Child Development & Behavior Guidance. In this class we will look at techniques for gaining kid’s cooperation without battles over clean-up, eating, etc. … KCF: II. C.   CDA: 1

#3 Breaking Bad…Habits: Setting Boundaries with Families (Pat Gentz)Set boundaries with families to allow for a professional environment and mutual respect. Discover what boundaries participants want in their unique environment and making a plan to implement them. Create an environment that is open and supportive with families, yet has professional boundaries.     KCF: III    CDA: 1

#4 SUID/AHT (Dawn Braa): This class meets DHS Licensing training requirements for both Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) and Abusive Head Trauma (AHT). Content includes recommendations to reduce Sudden, Unexpected Infant Deaths (SUID) including SIDS, suffocation, and other sleep related infant deaths; safe sleep environments; MN Child Care regulations related to safe sleep; as well as symptoms and consequences of abusive head trauma, risk factors for abusive head trauma; strategies to use when stressed, angry or frustrated.      KCF: VII. B.    CDA: 1


SESSION TWO – 1:30PM – 3:30PM (You may choose 1 of the following options):

A.  Let Them Play (Denita Dinger): Come and explore up to 30 hands-on activities that are loaded with open-ended learning opportunities. Based on the book Denita co-authored with Jeff Johnson, “Let Them Play: An Early Childhood “Un”curriculum”, this hands-on workshop will inspire you to bring more play to your program. Not only will you take loads of simple, inexpensive ideas back to your program, you will also leave empowered to educate parents of the true value of child-led play. Time will be spent dissecting play and articulating the learning that occurs during child-led play as well as digging in and letting your inner child emerge through play!  KCF VI.    CDA: 6

B.  Avoiding Power Struggles with Love & Logic (Andy Johnsrud)This training provides proven tips and techniques for avoiding power struggles AND ways to exercise really healthy control in work with children. We will also look into the basis for respect and how we can grow kids who resist peer pressure and temptation through self-control.      KCF: II. C.   CDA: 3

C.  Active Supervision: What Else Is In the Home? (Pat Gentz)Meets the Family Child Care provider annual supervision training requirement. This training curriculum will assist participants in assessing and outlining possible hazards throughout the home; acting on and eliminating hazards using suggested resolutions and resources for additional information; learning to identify “hot spots” in the home; and developing a plan for regular review of home environmental hazards.      KCF: VII. B.    CDA: 1

D. Enhancing Young Minds Through Sign (Dawn Braa): Enhancing Young Minds Through Sign: Participants will learn early childhood songs and stories using American Sign Language. Your group time will come alive through the use of sign. Guaranteed to provide you with content you can incorporate with children right away!      KCF: II. B.  CDA: 2
